I will confess I am a bit of a neat freak.
I don’t like staying in hotel rooms because I don’t trust how clean everything actually is.
When I bought our condo I knew that the previous owners didn’t clean anything at all before moving out. I am guessing they took a broom and did a quick sweep, that is it. Before I moved all our stuff in I replaced all that I was able to. I bought myself new, clean light fixtures. I painted over their gross walls and changed to a new toilet. I even bought a new sink, door handles, cabinet knobs and switch plates. I also added new Heating and A/C vent covers. After that, I cleaned everything that was not able to be replaced. The floors and ceilings were washed. I cleaned all the countertops and inside the dining room cupboards. The whole house smelled like bleach when I was done. The last step was I called in our local Heating and A/C supplier to do their thing. I got the inside of the Heating and A/C system cleaned, oiled and tightened. I didn’t want someone else’s hair, dirt and dust in our system. I also decided to even get my ducts cleaned. Outdoor elements like sticks, leaves and dirt can get in there. Also indoor elements like pet fur, hair and dust mites gather in there. Getting the HVAC ducts cleaned made me feel more at ease about moving in all our stuff. Once I knew that our Heating and A/C and indoor air quality was clean, we started moving everything in. I now know all the dirt is our own dirt.
