I suppose that a lot of people take their HVAC systems for granted, like it will always work without having to keep up with the maintenance.
Perhaps there are not a lot of people who think that way, but I sure took my HVAC systems for granted when I rented different properties over the years. Sure, I realize that the heating and cooling equipment had to be maintained to some degree, so I would change the air filters and things like that. But rarely did I ever worry about having the HVAC professionals come out to take care of things. It’s probably because the HVAC system wasn’t mine to worry about, but I should have been more concerned about things like air quality in the house and if the HVAC system might break down in the middle of the winter. Fortunately, I never had the HVAC break down during an inconvenient time, and when it did break down, I just called the landlord to do something about it. When I finally became a homeowner though, it took my HVAC system breaking down for me to actually get off my butt and do something about it! This time, it was in the winter when my heating system quit working. The HVAC professional had to teach me that I had to get my HVAC maintenance done regularly before the peak heating and cooling seasons. He said I needed to use better air filters as well and it wouldn’t hurt to get my ductwork system cleaned more often. I felt like a total newbie when it came to HVAC maintenance.
